Michael Del Valle : about the artist



1970
Born in Chicago
1980
Began taking summer classes and weekend classes during the regular school year at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Received Young Artist Studios, Art Institute of Chicago Most Outstanding Young Artist Scholarship Grant.
1984-88
Graduate of Lane Technical High School with a concentration in architecture.
1988
Attended the University of Illinois at Chicago. Studied graphic design and industrial design.
1989
Completed Boot Camp at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA. during the summer.
1991
Marine Corps Reserve Artillery Unit called to active duty in California during the first Gulf War.
1993-95
Graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Received an Associate Applied Science Degree in Graphic Design.
1994
Exhibition:
American Academy of Art Student Exhibition. Received Faculty First Award for the Edvard Munch Journal
1995
Graphic Designer for Movie Facts, Inc. in Des Plaines, IL.
Rents first art studio in a building on the northside of Chicago. Over 10 other artists also have a studio in that building.
The journey of being an artist begins.
1996
Moves to second art studio in the basement of a corner building on the west side of Chicago. Other artists also have studios.
Attended a lecture given by renowned graphic designer, David Carson at Northwestern University - Chicago Campus.

Honorable discharge from the Marine Corps Reserves with a rank of corporal.
1997
